💬 Frequently Asked Questions
What is pluralistic counselling?
Pluralistic counselling is a flexible and collaborative approach to therapy. Instead of using one fixed method, we work together to find what best supports you — whether that’s space to talk, tools to manage anxiety, or gently exploring the past. Everyone is different, so the therapy we do is shaped around your individual needs, preferences, and goals.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If something’s been weighing on your mind, affecting your mood, or just not sitting right — that’s reason enough to reach out. You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need to have it all figured out. Many people come to counselling simply because they need time, space, and someone to talk to. And that’s perfectly okay.
What can I talk about in counselling?
Anything at all. Some people come with specific issues like anxiety, grief, relationship struggles, or low self-esteem. Others aren’t quite sure what’s wrong, only that they’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed. There’s no right or wrong thing to bring — your story is welcome, just as it is.
How many sessions will I need?
That’s entirely up to you. Some people benefit from a handful of sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We’ll check in regularly to make sure things are still working for you, and there’s never any pressure or set commitment.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a gentle introduction. We’ll talk about what’s brought you here, what you’d like to get from counselling, and how we might work together. You’re welcome to ask any questions, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to. We will need to do some paperwork but that is all kept confidential.
Will I have to talk about my past?
Only if it feels helpful to you. For some, exploring the past can offer insight and healing. For others, the focus might be more on present-day challenges. There’s no set route — we’ll work in a way that feels safe and right for you.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions stays private. The only time confidentiality might be broken is if there’s a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else — and even then, I would always aim to talk it through with you first.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes — I offer both in-person sessions in Cheshunt and online sessions for clients across the UK and beyond. Online therapy can be just as effective and allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space (slippers welcome!).
How do I get started?
You can get in touch via email or phone to arrange a free, friendly chat. We’ll talk through what you’re looking for and whether counselling with me feels like a good fit. If it does, we’ll go ahead and book your first session. No pressure, no obligation — just a space to explore.

For your first session, I’ll meet you outside so you know exactly where to go and feel at ease from the moment you arrive.
